FAQ / Common Issues

Art

  • No letterboxing or other types of framing on hero/still images or posters.
  • No logos, taglines, names, or laurels on artwork; title only. Title must be large enough to be legible from a distance (ex: being able to read the title when walking up to a movie theater).
  • Must deliver portrait AND landscape layered artwork. We prefer to receive 4x3 in addition to 16x9, but 2x3 and 16x9 are required.

Captions

  • Captions must sync with the feature. Please check sync for both SRT and SCC files before delivery.
  • Must deliver both SRT and SCC from the original source. Do not use an online converter.
  • If there is any non-English dialogue, the English translation must be burnt into the video, or delivered as a separate subtitle file. Do not include this text in the CC file; closed captions are only for spoken English dialogue, music lyrics, and off-screen sounds.
  • Music with lyrics must be spelled out on screen like any other spoken words. The format is generally two music notes with the lyrics in between (ex: ♪ Any way the wind blows ♪).

Video

  • Video timecode must start at 00:00:00:00 for both the feature & trailer.
  • No slates, cards, textless elements, etc. unless specifically requested. If there are textless elements, they should be delivered separately.
  • Trailer needs to be evergreen (no release dates, coming soon, etc.) and green-band (no swear words, nudity, severe gore, extreme violence, or any other explicit content; in other words, it must be appropriate for anyone of any age to view). For more detailed information on green-band trailer requirements, click here.
  • No 2k or 4k video; we only accept and deliver 1920x1080 video.
  • Video must be 1920x1080. If it wasn’t natively shot at this frame size, add letterboxing so the final video is exactly 1920x1080.
  • Frame rate must be the same (generally 23.976, 24, or 25) between the feature & trailer.
  • Final or “master” exports must use the Apple ProRes 422 HQ codec in an MOV container.
  • Other exports must use the H.264 codec in an MP4 container.
  • Audio configuration should be either stereo-only (L R) or 5.1 (L R C LFE Ls Rs) + stereo (L R). There is a very specific way this has to be done; please refer to this guide before delivering 5.1 audio. If you only have 5.1 audio but no stereo, refer to this guide on how to convert 5.1 audio into stereo.
